I love my Janome

I really enjoy quilting - it is a great way to show my creative side. Although most times I just feel like a copy cat, I still feel creative. But I spend most of my time doing alterations and piece work (helps pay the bills). I have been sewing professionally since 1980 and have a steady flow of work. (Hinders the quilting quite a bit). I even worked for our x-governor's wife and helped run her shop for years.

Anyway one thing I have always hated doing was putting in invisible zippers. I had a foot for my Singer that worked fairly well but it was still a pain. When I got my Janome that foot didn't work. So I made due. Dumb me. I didn't think Janome made a foot just for that. Right, as if they wouldn't think of that.

So I was playing on the computer and just happened across the Janome invisible zipper foot. I made the trek across town Saturday and bought me one. All I can say is amazing. I have never put one in so fast and so accurate. All I could think was 'Where have you been all my life'. My Janome gets better and better ever day.


                                 

Just goes to show A little knowledge is dangerous, in this case ignorance wasn't bliss.

What to do?????????????

                                         

I read other blogs and see how much stuff other people get done and I get so frustrated.


                                   I try to do, but don't seem to get much accomplished. My TO - DO list just seems to be getting longer and longer. And the longer it gets the less I want to do.

             I just listed 20 things and deleted them -no need to show
                                             



Where do I start  --------------or do I just say forget it and go into the sewing room.



 

Dear Jane

I have fell in love with this quilt and have decided to give it a try. I know it will probably end up in my unfinished project pile but it will be something to shoot for. I am currently trying to gather the fabrics I will need. I have a brand new plastic container to store all the fabrics and blocks (when finished) in. I already have a few pieces. It's a shame I don't have my grandmothers old shoe box of scraps. I think I'm going to make all the blocks by hand. This will be a plus in that I will be able to work on them anywhere.

Isn't it great to set such high goals. Seems I don't do anything the easy way.

Cutting Edge Rulers

The Cutting Edge rulers are a new product designed by Pat Sloan and the good people at Sullivan's.  Pat is a very well known pattern and fabric designer, and has written countless books for Leisure Arts.   Sullivan's is known for their sewing furniture and cutting tables, but they are really moving forward into the spotlight with some of their revolutionary new products like the Cutting Edge Rulers.
 The Cutting edge Ruler is an acrylic ruler that has a 650 grit Diamond Carbide edge that is bonded to the ruler.  What you really want to know is will the sharpener edge come off at some point?  The answer is no, that is highly unlikely even for the most used ruler.  The sharpener edge is there for good.

Good Bye Sweet Gum

I know this doesn't have anything to do with quilting but I thought I'd show what we did yesterday. I've been putting off cutting this stupid Sweet Gum down for a while now but the roots are making their way under the slab of the house. So Good Bye Sweet Gum. My brother and husband did all the work all I did was cart the branches to a pile by the road.Now I have sweet gum balls and twigs all over the place. I guess there won't be any quilting done today. Seems like something always gets in the way.

King Cake

Any of you from LA should know this but for those of you that aren't from here this is a treat this time of year. My daughter won this yesterday and as you can see we have already dived into it. And I must say it is very good. We still have a few more weeks left til Mardi Gras and a few more King Cakes to go. All I need now is the crawfish.

Starting Early

This is a picture of the quilt my granddaughter just made for a school project. She has been sewing for awhile now and she just turned 7. She had a little help from her mother but I think she is doing great . I tried to get her mother and my other daughter started early but it didn't work out back then. .

Another sample

I decided to go ahead and put a few pieces together to see what color I wanted to go around the squares. I made these 2 inch squares and I think they are still a little to big - maybe 1/4 of an inch. I think I like the middle yellow and the dark green the best. Once I get going and take my time it will look like catherdal windows. I think I need to make another design. My poor head hurts trying to think of someting that will be great.

New Quilt

I'm attempting something new for a quilt and I threw these 2 sections together out of scraps to see about what size I might want. The yellow is 2.5 blocks and the other is 1.75.  Of course the smaller one would take more time to make but I think I'm leaning a little more toward it. I still don't know for sure yet. And then I need to finish designing the entire quilt. It would be so much easier if I'd just pick a pattern and go with it but nooooooo I have to make things difficult.
