Awesome show

I was looking around on the net and I came across this show. Boy I wish I had of been in New York for the American Folk Art Museum Infinite Variety show. This would have been an awesome show to go to and it was free.
Joanna S. Rose has accumulated about 651 red-and-white quilts since the late 1950s. The armory display was a birthday present for, and from, Mrs. Rose, who turned 80 several months ago. She had never seen the quilts all at once.

More pictures and the article can be found http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/24/finally-mrs-rose-and-the-public-can-see-all-her-rugs/

or you can go look at Pat Sloan's flicker

My mother would have loved this show

Center section - DONE

I finally got the all trinagles sewn back. Right now it measures 50 x 31.5 without the borders. Now for the borders - what to do. I've been thinking on it and haven't come up with a good idea yet. I didn't want to do strip borders and I have thought of a few options but nothing has hit home yet. I think I'll just move on to something else for awhile and stew on it.

I'm still not happy with the way it's turned out - not perfect. I wanted the triangles to form perfect circles. Maybe I can fix that when I quilt it.

Newsprint Paper

I don't know about anyone else but I love to paper piece. One of the most frustrating things about it is affording the paper. I have bought the packs of 100 pieces for paper piecing but if I'm doing a big project I can go through a couple of packs of those easy and that gets costly. I have even used regular copy paper but that is a little stiffer and difficult to remove.

I have found that newsprint paper will work and it is a lot cheaper. It's thinner than copy paper and the paper piecing paper and it removes rather easily. I found it the cheapest on Amazon

Saturday

yesterday started off on a bad foot. I woke up before the alarm and when I went to turn it off I noticed it was set for the wrong time. I got so mad at my husband for changing the time, thinking that I was going to be late for work. Then the light bulb came on and I realized it was Saturday. That blew sleeping late.

I had decided I was going to spend the day working on my Hoffman quit when my daughter called and said my 4 year old grandson wanted to meet me for breakfast. How could I say no to that? So off to breakfast. Then as long as I was out I figured I would go to Wally world and pick up a few things.

So I finally was able to get to my sewing. The back pourch needs to be put back in order, the kitchen needs cleaning and the cloths need folding - but I worked on my quilt.

Then about 6 my grandson (the 4 year old) came in with these

What a way to end such a frustrating day. Then he wanted to spend the night and I upset him when I said no. I did get most of the sewing done. Now To finish it today

My new Block

I received my March block (Block Swap) in the mail the other day. It is so nice to get a new square every month. I'm a little lax in getting mine out but I have been making the deadline by the barest.

One of the hardest things is trying to figure out what someone else would like and how it will go with the other blocks they have. Then I worry about if it will be good enough. I spend so much time worrying about my abilities and I need to quit that. I know I'm not perfect but that doesn't stop me from wanting to be.

Embrodery Conference

I went to an Embrodery Conference (class) Saturday and this was my free gift. ( I love free gifts).

I learned about Floriani stablilizers, threads and softwares. I really enjoyed the class and the instructor.

Of course like any class they have the product you can purchase afterward. And believe it or not I didn't spend a dime. I wanted to though. I wanted one of everything. I'm still wondering what got into me. - well maybe another day.

What Now

Been under the weather all week with an abcess tooth. Finally got so bad that I had to call the doc for antibotics. Guess a root canal is in my future.

So needless to say I haven't got much done. I did break down and fold laundry - only because I couldn't find any matching socks.

Feeling much better today (day 2 of antibotics) and it's Friday. I am going to an embrodery conference on Saturday, so I'm glad it's getting better.

Hope everyone has a great day and even better weekend

Another Yard

I had to order another yard of the green fabric in order to finish 6 more rows. I had thought about not worrying about it and just use what I had done but I had also started something else with it and needed a little more for that too. I really only needed about 1/4 yard but I couldn't see placing an order for that (shipping would have costed more than the fabric)

I spent part of Saturday and all of Sunday sewing back triangles. I just know I will have a blister on my thumb - I can feel it.

Believe it or not this is the same green. My camera has a mind of it's own.

Here's something to make you smile 4-wheeling-marshall

Another Look

I've started sewing the green pieces back (and not doing a very good job at that). They are supposed to be making circles. I'm learning as I go. Hopefully they will get better or not be that noticeable when I get through. I definately made a bigger project out of this than I wanted. The idea was good -the production is a mess.

Sneak Peak

I thought I'd give a little sneak peak of the quilt I'm working on for the Hoffman Challange. I'm trying to make a mock cathederal window with a stack-n-whack center and the outside a one seam flying geese. I thought it would be a little easier. (Notice I said thought).
I ran out of green fabric and had to order more. I have 6 more rows to do. Then I need to curve all the triangles, then do the borders.

As if that wasn't enough work I'll have a hard time quilting it because of the thickness.

What a mess. Maybe next time I'll just do a nine patch.

I took alot of pictures so I only put a few on here. This was my 1st quilt show.

Check it out I'm #183

So cool - it's not much but it's something.

Block from Elizabeth

I received my block from Elizabeth (my Block Swap partner for February) yesterday. It is so pretty and it will go well with my block from Pam (January's partner). Both ladies did such a great job - makes me feel a little guilty about the ones I sent them. I was running so behind on the February block that I sent it off as soon as it was done and realized I had forgotten to take a picture. I'll get one when she posts it on the Block Swap blog.

I'm thinking about embrodering their names and state on them when I get them. That way I will always know who made them.
