Congrats to your daughter! That is a great accomplishment to get an engineering degree. I like luggage as a graduation gift because now the graduate is going places!

Bev S said...

Well I am so excited that she is graduating. I can't wait. Take the two boys for a day or to so that her and Jeremy can go out on the town and not have to worry about picking up the kids.

Congratulations to both you and your daughter. Maybe a leather portfolio would be a nice gift. Thanks for the opportunity to enter your great giveaway!

Mommarock said...

Well, I'm sure you have already given her a quilt..I think a briefcase would be nice for work, but for home it would be nice to give a cookbook filled with all of the recipes of home. It is nice to have that touch of home going into the world, and know how to make all of your favorite comfort foods of home that bring you back to the feeling of mom and dad.. or Christmas cookies, or Easter whatever anytime you need or want it.

Needled Mom said...

Congratulations to her...and YOU!!! It has to be something memorable - maybe a piece of jewelry?

Sharon Pernes said...

Congrats! It's such a special memory for all of you. My oldest graduated in July with a Masters (his undergrad was the year before) and our daughter graduates this spring too.
We got our son a new laptop for his graduation. His was very well used during his undergrad days, but it was time for another one.
For our daughter we are getting her a piece of jewelry.
Then the other part of the 'gift' is helping them get set up in their own place once they have a real job. Luckily our son went right to work so we had to help him with a deposit on his apt and a few other things.
Ok now that I wrote a book, I'll stop :)
Congrats again

MoeWest said...

Congratulations to your daughter! I think a piece of jewelery would be something she would always treasure.

Snoodles said...

Call me crazy, but I absolutely love practical gifts...maybe a laptop carrier? Really protective, so it won't be harmed at her job? I'm participating in the blog hop, too, isnt' it fun?!

Gill said...

Congratulations to your daughter!
How about a good fountain pen???

Janet said...

My kids are all getting quilts when they graduate. One already has hers but now she's gone back to school so I guess I'll have to make her another one.

Pippa Parsons said...

I had a really good fountain pen when I left college, its something I look at 18 years later and know who gave it to me and why, thanks for the giveaway :)

Sallie said...

Congratulations! A very nice leather LSU frame for her diploma and cash to help with all the deposts or furniture for a new place.

Jen said...

How about a quilt?! I know that I would treasure a handwritten letter from my mom telling me how proud she is and how she always knew I could do it becuase I was alwasys so darn smart. It has to be a real mushy letter though, that she'll have to keep forever :)

Kathy S. said...

A brief case would be a nice gift, but I don't know if "kids" still use those now that everybody carries laptops. If you have time to sew something and sew hexagons, Becky's Blabber did an element themed quilt. You could make her a small wall hanging or mug rug with chemical things that she likes on it (chocolate, coffee...) Congrats to you both!

JudyCinNC said...

I would make her a quilt of your design using the periodic table of elements. THis would be so unique for her and a treasure for sure. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. Judy C

Congratulations to your daughter!! I have two sons graduating this year. One in a week from Radford University and one in May from the University of Portland. I have thought long and hard on what to give them for graduation that they can always cherish. So I decided that I am going to have their diploma's professional framed for their graduation present.

Joanie's Trendy Quilts said...

My first thought is give her a quilt! But seeing all the beautiful quilts in your slide show she probably already has one. My second thought was give her a paid vacation at her favorite spot. I imagined myself at the beach after exam time in college. The third thought was to give her something memorable maybe a ring. It would be something to remind her of her amazing achievement, a chemical engineering degree!

Mary Beth said...

Give her a computer bag to carry her computer. First thing my son the computer engineer ask for after graduation!! Make it a quilted one!! Oh and congratulations on that degree to you and your daughter!!

JoyceLM said...

Congrats to your daughter. I've given nice leather portfolio/briefcase/computer bags as graduation gifts & the giftees seemed pleased. Thanks for the chance to win.

Monica said...

Congratulations to your daughter! How about getting her a really nice leather messenger bag? Or maybe a very nice engraved pen set?

Congratuations to your daughter. I suggest luggage as a gift. Lana D.

My mom's graduation gift to me is a mother/daughter quilting cruise to Alaska. This counts as a high school and college present though (I joined the Army right after HS, so I didn't have much use for a present then). It's nice to have the opportunity to spend some time with each other and also give them a little taste of the world before they have to settle down!!

Denise said...

I think making a quilt with pics from her childhood up til her graduation would be a wonderful gift and something she would cherish.

Sue Daurio said...

what could be better than a graduation quilt? That or cash. I know that's what I really appreciated when I graduated :)

Ella said...

Oo. A custom lap top bag. Or luggage and a passport holder.

beaquilter said...

make her a memory quilt or a T shirt quilt.... the memory quilt where you print out pictures onto fabric sheets, or a copy of her certificate or something else special- don't do the iron on- doesn't last, spend the $ on fabric sheets they are much better :-)

Missy said...

My suggestion for a gift is a sewing machine if she likes to sew or wants to learn..that is what I got way back when and I wore that machine out : )

das said...

A memory quilt of the big moments leading up to this big day. Photos too. Congrats!

Ana said...

Having married an engineer, a briefcase seems to be something they all need and use. For your daughter a unique, handcrafted one would be memorable. Perhaps something with her name, hobby, etc.
Congrats to her, she must be so proud of her achievement.

bohemiannie! art said...

I say give her a cruise to the Bahamas! She deserves it!

Rachel Bates said...

A car? I don't know. I wondered about a scrapbook. Maybe even ask other folks in that job.

Mhairi said...

Congratulations to your daughter. How about a periodic table quilt or a t-shirt memory quilt. Is she moving away from home? How about a quilt reflecting her life so far, places she has been, places she has lived. If you took photos and printed them on fabric is would be a lovely way to remember her life up to her graduation - save the middle of the quilt for her graduation photo.

I graduated from LSU in 2002. I didn't get a class ring. I so badly wanted the pendant that can be ordered in the Student Union Book Store on campus. It is like a class ring replacement. I couldn't afford it at the time.

Chem eng? I'd go with a multitool, a little Leatherman of the cuter end. Utterly essential whatever you're doing, especially if in lab/visiting sites/in office...it's the most useful thing I keep in my purse ;)

Nettie said...

You could make her a quilted computer bag to carry her laptop in. Most engineers have laptops.
Or, perhaps a quilted bag for her I Pad or Nook? They are really simple to construct.
Thanks for the great giveaway.

Congratulations to your daughter! Things that would help her land a job (if she needs it) might be good. Sometimes resumes and letters must be mailed, so good stationary and envelopes and maybe a new black ink cartridge for her printer. A book on interview techniques; (leather is best) briefcase, notepad, and pen; personal business card (and holder) with her name, phone(s), and email addy... Vista Print has some inexpensive ones; interview outfit
Just some ideas for her graduation present that are little different from the norm.
Thanks for the giveaway.

So many great ideas - it's hard to not think of something not quilt related (like a mempry t-shirt quilt!) but maybe some sort of travel voucher - for them to take a deserviing holiday or to use to visit friends and family! Thanks for the giveaway - all great stuff!

WOW. congrats. It is so hard to think that far ahead I have a sophomore nursing major and a senior in high school. I also think each kid is different. My daughter (college kid) would probably love a new sewing machine and/or financial help. She is not a jewelry girl. My son, yikes, who knows!! Thanks so much for the opportunity!

Congrats to your daughter on her graduation. Something for her apt/home would be nice. Something where she can sit back, and relax a bit now that the studying is done and before she has to go to work full time. Candles, a nice lamp, tea, comfy pillows, anything to help her to just sit and relax for awhile. Thanks for the opp. to enter.

DO go with jewelry. A locket is nice, a bracelet or ring might be good. Maybe a Chem E doesn't wear jewelry...EVERYone wears diamon earrings, right?

Christine M said...

Congratulations to your daughter on her graduation. What about a special piece of jewellery like a necklace or earrings. They would be her special memento of her graduation.

Angela FlowersMoore said...

Oh my my congrats to your daughter for this accomplishment. I have the perfect suggestion for a gift. How about a diploma frame. They are beautiful and I am sure you can find then at the LSU bookstore. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to your daughter! I would suggest a gift she will keep forever but with a fun twist. An upscale (brass or silver) desk game for adults - sometimes they can even be engraved.

Aimee said...

I think when I graduate I would really like one of those nice degree frames, maybe one of those?

I love the plushie idea though :)

Heather said...

I know it sounds terribly impersonal but we gave out children a large check when they graduated. It was to be used to start their new life as they needed and was much appreciated. We also framed the diploma of the engineer cause he wanted that for his office. My last graduated this spring and plans to go to grad school so I figure another check for him!

Linda at LRDesignsQuilting said...

Congrats to your daughter! If she's a jewelry girl, diamond stud earrings, simple and classic, if she's a reader a Nook Color or Tablet! Good luck deciding, my older kids got money and who knows what my current college kid will get when she graduates! We might be too broke to buy her anything!

I guess I'm a practical person because I like to give gifts that are useful. Since she's going to be an engineer she could probably use a good, stylish attache` case to carry her work-related items.

I would have to say money. And any sort of job connections/people, if she's looking for a job. But I'm about to graduate college, and money is at the top of my list.
That book looks like lots of fun.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Wow, Chemical Engineering, good for her! She has studied so very hard over the years, she deserves a trip to Europe, perhaps Belgium, England, Scotland and Ireland. They all speak english at these places so there won't be any more stress added. Congratulations on having such a focused and studious daughter. Thanks for the giveaway.

SassyCathy said...

Idea for graduation from LSU with Chemical degree.
That is a tough question.
I am thinking ...
Golly gosh gee louise that's hard!
Something she can keep forever - something she will treasure - memorable -
Of course you can (and I'm sure will) give her useful things like money and stuff ... but - ? what ? would be the one thing to get her attention???
I could say something like have a star named for her.
I could say something like make a quilt with chemical symbols on it (? is there a thing like that?)
A book? something special to Chemistry?
You know her best - what are her interests? What "cranks" her tractor and makes her smile - grin - laugh?
Maybe you can ponder her childhood and think of something special she would remember?
A ring she will be getting for graduation - so I guess that's ruled out.
An especially nice bible?
A cruise?
????
I just don't know but I'm sure you will find something special.
Good luck :)

Congratulations on your daughters graduation. I know how proud you must be. When my son graduated from High School my daughter gathered photos from the time he was little to all his school pics and special occasions and scanned them to a CD. Then added his favorite song. It was very special and brought lots of tears as my parents were on it and they both have passed on. It was a very special CD!

First of all HUGE Congratulations to you and your daughter! That is quite an accomplishment. :0) I know you are so proud, and justifiably so.

I know this sounds horribly impersonal, but I would think that cash would be a great help in getting set up and started in her new life ahead. I would also get her a nice card and write her a letter, telling her how you feel and how proud you are of her. She will treasure your words. :0)

KeyQuilter said...

I vote cash, too. Another would be a family history but that might take longer than a week!

Kari said...

Congratulations to your daughter! Money and gift cards are always nice, but the best present my mom gave me when I graduated college was just being there to help move me out. I was too far away and she hadn't visited once while I was at school so it was nice to be able to share the place I had spent the last 4 years at.
Thank-you fro the chance to win!

Congratulations to your daughter. Huge milestone.
She maybe able to use a IPad2.
Or a round trip ticket to Hawaii.
Both can be pricey, but she worked hard sounds like.

Cat said...

Congratulations to both of you! People are so different about what they'd like, it's hard to say what she needs. Does she have a laptop, tablet PC? These are really nice. Maybe a smartphone; most have email, a GPS, & web access. Does she have a job she's heading off to? Something that would help out in the new place? I know when my sons graduate in a few years, they will be very particular about their computers, so sometimes these items can be hard to choose well.

Perhaps a memory quilt with pics of family/friends & a binder with all the favorite family recipes.

I graduated 30 years ago in Engineering...I got an electric typewriter (the big gift) a mug & pen from my college & money from lots of friends & relatives!
I love the quilt on the cover of the book "Quilter's Kitchen". What a nice giveaway. Thanks

A huge congratulations to your daughter. My first thought would be to take her out shopping for a new wardrobe. I'm sure while in college she's not been dressing as one would for a position such as the one she will now have. I know too how short of cash most college graduates are so as badly as she will need a nice work wardrobe, she may not have the extra money for that. Another thought would be a bunch of gift cards to help her get through the tough times when bills eat more money than she can afford. I'm thinking gift cards to many different restaurants to give her a nice meal out and time off from cooking and also some gift cards to a grocery store where she may be moving or living. Also, kitchen items she may not have but might need such a cookbooks, maybe a nice crockpot so she'll be able to have her meal cooking while she's at work.

I'm somewhat practical so I think along those terms plus, I have one son who has already graduated from college and another who graduated from the state university and is now attending law school so I know how their money doesn't go too far at times and things we've given my son to keep his head above water. Plus we made sure to give him gift cards or to actually prepare a menu for him complete with shopping list and coupons and took him shopping rather than to just give him the money which might have been spent on 2-3 meals out rather than the two weeks worth of groceries and menus with recipes I gave him. Of course I would love to say give her a great vacation somewhere but she might already have a great job lined up and can't take that time off.
